SETTING SITE DEFINITIONS DREAMWEAVER MX

 

Example is for Netfirms.com - If using Hostit4u account please click herex Example Netfirms.com

1.  Open up your work within Dreamweaver

2.  In the Top Menu select Site>New Site (or Site>Edit Sites - if the Root folder is already designated as
      'Unit'  -   4,5,6, etc) - If the Root folder is already designated - skip straight to step 5.

3.  Give your Site a name (eg: Joanne1) in the Local info window

4.  Choose the Local Root folder which contains your work (using the 'browse' Folder icon)
     This tells Dreamweaver which Root folder to use.

     Choose the Default 'images' folder (this should have been previously created and contain all site images)

     See screenshot for how this screen looks (Ensure Advanced tab is selected)

5.  Now choose 'Remote' info (from the Category Menu left)

6.  Fill out your Netfirms details per the screenshot below
     Set Access to: FTP
     FTP Host: yourusername.netfirms.com
     Host Directory: www/
     Login: your username (only)
     Password: the one chosen for netfirms

7.  Click OK then Done.

8.  Go to the Right hand menu Files>Assets

9.  This now opens up the Site Window - You will see your own PC files on the right

10. Click the 'Connect' Button

11. Hopefully now you will be connected to Netfirms
     (If you receive FTP errors, be sure to carefully check all spelling in your remote info site definitions)
     (Also if you are using a Firewall on your computer you will have to disable it.)

     You can now select any of the files in your local root folder and 'Put' them to your webspace
     using the 'Up' Arrow button. (Be sure to"include dependant files" when prompted)
     Or, 'Get' any files from your server (using the 'Down' Arrow button) and edit them before re 'Put' them back      again edited.

     You can toggle between Local view (Which shows you your Local computer site files or
     Remote view (Which shows you the published host remote files)

    Once you have uploaded your file, Open Internet Explorer and go to your website address to verify.
    If your uploaded file is not called 'index.htm' be sure to remember to type the filename in full.
    EG: http://kevinavesmcitp.netfirms.com/index_homework.htm

    Re-Enable your firewall once all ftp transfers are completed.
